In this tutorial you will learn how to edit text and change font styles. You will also learn how to make text bold, and add special characters.
Click in the first paragraph to highlight the text element. A 'T' icon will appear as in the picture below. Click on this to open the text editor. The text editor works in a similar way to other word processing packages (e.g. Microsoft Word)
To highlight some text, hold down the left mouse button, scroll over the text and release it. For this example, highlight the text: “Welcome to Pixx Photos!”. Once the text is highlighted, we can change the font style. Click on the arrow next to the Font Family box along the top of the text editor and select Trebuchet MS from the list.
With the same text still highlighted, click on the arrow next to the Size box. Click on a size (in this example 32). This will make our heading more prominent on the page.
With the same text still highlighted, click on the colour square next to the size box. The colour menu will now open. Click on a colour to select it, then click the apply button.
In order to see all your changes, you will need to unhighlight the text. Click once anywhere in the text to unhighlight a selection, then click 'Apply' to close the text editor. You should now be able to see all the changes you have made.
In our example, the Pixx photo competition is so important that Pixx have trademarked it. We need to add a trademark symbol into the text. Position your cursor by clicking at the end of the word “Competition”. Select the special Character button on the toolbar (see picture below). The special character menu will open with a list of characters you can use. For this example, click on the trademark symbol.
In the text editor, you emphasis certain sections of text by making them bold, italic, or underlined. For this example, click at the end of the section of text: ”details like exposure.” Press return to start a new line and type the following text: Competition Terms and Conditions: Highlight this phrase and click on the B button in the toolbar.
Bullet points can help to break up information, making it easier to read. Click in the text editor and press the return key to start a new line. Click the Bullet button on the toolbar to add a new bullet, enter the following text:
Click the apply button at the bottom of the text editor to apply your changes to your webpage and close the text editor. To save the entire page, click on the save button in the main toolbar. Once you page has saved, click on “View Live Site” on the status bar. You will now see your website as your visitors do, it is that easy to publish updates to your website!
In this tutorial you learned the basics of how to use the text editor to manipulate text within your website.
