Landing pages are the pages that your visitor first sees. Most people wrongly assume that visitors will always land on your home page first. However, search engines and other links to your site will normally send visitors directly to the most appropriate page.
Landing pages fit with how visitors use the internet. Users type in a search word or phrase into the internet because they are looking for the answer to a particular question. Until they find this answer, they are very difficult to distract, and any attempts to do so become annoying very quickly. However, if a site answers that users question, they will often stop and look around to see what else on the site might be of interest.
Landing pages should be very specific and aim to address all the questions a user might have. In our case, we are looking for distinct groups of visitors. The first group are those that are looking to buy a new website. Our problem is that the Webmanager is new, so most visitors will not even think about searching for it, but they will search for other information, such as 'what content should I put on my website', 'what makes a good website', 'new website - where to start' etc. We create lots of informative information that helps the visitor. Our site starts to rank in google for these search terms and visitors that like the information we give stay and look around the site to see if there is anything else useful for them. We then provide links to the Webmanager and free trial links so that they can find out more if they are interested.
For landing pages to be successful, they have to be relevant to visitors queries, you have to create new pages and update old pages, and they have to link to the main pages of your website. Creating new content little and often will start to really boost your website rankings for a variety of searches and give more reasons for other people to link to your website.
To be able to do this, you will need to ensure your website comes with an easy way for you to create new pages and add the content as you need.
